POWERFUL LEADERSHIP TEACHING TOOL

This is an intense week long leadership training course for Scouts.  This course provides boys with the Leadership skills they will need to be truly effective It is the newest Council Youth Leader training that Scouting offers!

We must always remember that the training of  junior leaders is the responsibility of the Scoutmaster.  This course is designed to support, not replace, the Scoutmaster's role in the training process.  Each scout who attends will do so as a representative of his troop and will wear the uniform and insignia of his troop.

National Youth Leader Training Course Description

The PK/NYLT course is setup to represent a month in the life of a typical scout troop. Including mirroring the troop structure by assigning incoming participants to patrols.

Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting.  Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use on mnemonics.

Three modeled troop meetings, a Patrol Leaders’ Council meeting in the round, followed by daily PLC operating sessions, an instructional campfire, and the troop operation using the patrol method, are coupled with Explanation, Demonstration and Guided practice to create an enabled, productive troop program.
Throughout the week, the Scoutmaster models his role in delivering that program in an adult-led, boy-run troop

Key Course Elements are:

Sessions on problem solving, making ethical decisions, and valuing people, are added as elements of a leaders toolbox.

Who Attends?

Each participant should be at least 13 years old and a First Class Scout.  Experience has shown that younger Scouts often lack the physical and emotional maturity to benefit fully from this experience.

The fee for Powder Keg is the same as for a week of camp under troop leadership.  All multi-week/sibling discounts apply, and camperships are available (campership application, please print 2-sided)

To help your troop function more effectively, plan to have your junior leaders take part in this experience.  For more information call Mr. Jim Burke at 596-5598.
